Still Think The U.N. Is A Force For Good?

     Ask an Israeli Jew:

     (Sep. 18, 2024 / JNS)
Jerusalem’s Old City, in addition to Judea and Samaria, must be Judenrein within a year, according to a Palestinian-drafted resolution, which the U.N. General Assembly passed on Wednesday.
The resolution, which passed by a 124-14 margin with 43 abstentions, is meant to give force to a July advisory opinion by the International Court of Justice, which declared Israeli presence to be illegal in any area over the 1949 armistice line.
More than 40 countries sponsored the resolution, which was the first that Palestinians filed after being granted unprecedented privileges, for a non-U.N. member, earlier this year.

Jerusalem – the whole of it – was a Jewish city from the times of Moses (approx. 1000 B.C.) to the invasion by Muslim conquerors in 638 A.D. Part of it was retaken by Jewish forces in 1947, during the struggles that eventuated in the State of Israel. Israel reclaimed the rest in 1967’s Six-Day War. But the “United Nations” – yes, those are “sneer quotes” – is willing to countenance the Muslim conquest, but not the Israeli recapture of the rest of the city that for three thousand years has stood at the heart of Jewish life and faith.

I don’t want to hear one word about “Muslim holy sites.” When Muslims decide they want some piece of land, they simply declare it “one of Islam’s holiest sites.” They’re beggars, liars, and thieves. And I don’t want to hear anything in defense of the U.N. It was a toxic idea when FDR agreed to it, and it’s become ever more destructive as the years have passed.
